A Staten Island man is facing multiple charges after allegedly making anti-Islamic statements towards a woman standing on the D train.

The NYPD says that Christopher Nastasa, 39, was charged with 19 charges, including two counts of Hate Crime/Robbery, two counts of robbery, and one count each of grand larceny and harassment.

Police transported him from the Seventh Precinct, which houses the Hate Crimes Task Force.

The incident happened on March 17 at the 9th Avenue subway station just before 11 a.m.

Police say the man approached a 20-year-old woman standing on the platform and made anti-Islamic statements before grabbing her arms and throwing her to the ground. He also took the victim's cellphone and threw it to the ground, damaging it.

According to NYPD statistics, transit crime and hate crimes are slightly up across the city compared to this time last year.
