Exclusive surveillance video captured a brutal assault in Mount Vernon over an apparent stolen tip jar Monday night.

The suspect, identified by Mount Vernon police as 24-year-old Tyrese L. Beard, was seen going into a deli on South Fifth Avenue and apparently grabbing a tip jar from the counter inside. Employees say the tip jar had less than $10 in it.

When an employee tried to confront him, cameras captured the assault. Workers say the employee suffered a broken eye socket, broken nose and severe cuts and bruises.

Minutes before the alleged attack, sources say Beard was in the Bronx – which was captured on video – attempting to break into a home on Dyre Avenue and apparently taking some sort of package.  The home is just feet from the Mount Vernon deli.

News 12 was told the victim will undergo surgery Friday for his injuries.
