Facebook video of two New York State troopers who were allegedly sleeping in their patrol car is racking up thousands of views online and causing controversy.
The troopers were reportedly blocking a road off during an active police investigation when they were allegedly found asleep.
Robert Hasbrouck says he hit record in disbelief Wednesday when he saw what looked like two Troop F New York State Troopers seemingly asleep in their cruiser, during what he says was an active scene in his Bloomingburg neighborhood.
"There was guns drawn, vests, SWAT everywhere. It just didn't look like a place for anybody to be sleeping,” he says. "Me and my friend were there 20 minutes. I circled around the car multiple times, thinking one of them would wake up.”
The now viral recording shows Hasbrouck walking around the cruiser three times with no apparent movement inside.
Many people News 12 spoke to found the incident alarming following the fatal shooting of an NYPD officer earlier this week.
A representative for the state police says the department is aware of the incident and a personnel investigation is ongoing.
It's not clear whether or not there are any rules against sleeping on duty, and authorities aren't commenting on the circumstances surrounding the incident.
News 12 reached out to officials at Troop F, but they had no comment. Calls to the New York State Police PBA have not been returned.
