Today is Veterans Day and a very special ceremony was held in Yonkers to honor the many people who have served this country.
The ceremony was yesterday at the Coyne Park Senior Center to honor veterans, POWs and those missing in action.
A lit candle sat on a table, with a white tablecloth, and next to it were a single red rose and a yellow ribbon, which symbolized the sacrifices so many men and women made for our freedom. "They are going to be honoring 18 veterans that belong to Coyne Park. They honor them every year and present them with a ribbon. It's a touching ceremony," says Sam Riti, of Group 40 AMVET.
The United States originally observed Nov. 11 as Armistice Day and it evolved into the current Veterans Day holiday in 1954.
