A toddler is now safe after being inside a vehicle that was carjacked in East Orange Tuesday night, police say.
Police were called to Sanford Street at 10:19 p.m. Tuesday for reports of a gray Porsche that was stolen. The car owner's young child was in the vehicle at the time, East Orange police wrote in a release.
"Police do not believe the suspect knew a toddler was in the car," the release stated.
Detectives soon tracked down the Porsche and initiated a brief motor vehicle pursuit. A short time later, they apprehended a suspect identified as Dwan Littlejohn, 30, of Newark.
"The 15-month-old child was immediately recovered from the vehicle and found to be unharmed," police said.
Littlejohn is facing multiple charges, including kidnapping, eluding police, endangering the welfare of a child, unlawful taking of a motor vehicle and resisting arrest.
