New Year's Eve is usually a time that many head out to party at local ball drops or bars, but with recent happenings, some people may be changing their plans.
Thousands are expected to pack White Plains Wednesday night for the annual New Year's Eve party, and despite the party atmosphere, tensions remain high between police and protesters. Over the weekend, thousands gathered for the wake and funeral for NYPD Officer Rafael Ramos, who was executed along with his partner Wenjian Liu last week.
Law enforcement officials say dozens of threats have been made against police all across the country since the murders. Nationwide protests, some of them violent, continue over the Michael Brown case in Ferguson, Missouri and the Eric Garner case in Staten Island.
Some people who spoke with News 12 today don't anticipate any problems out of the ordinary. "I'm still going to go with my plan, go out with my friends and enjoy New Year's Eve. That's my plan and that what I'm going to do," says DJ Beil, of Purchase. "It's a new year, maybe things will change...hopefully," adds Mack Damis, of White Plains.
News 12 will have live coverage of the White Plains ball drop at 10 p.m. on Wednesday.
