The new Tappan Zee Bridge span is being built with safety design features that can be found on the world's greatest racetracks.
Instead of being built flat like the current Tappan Zee Bridge, the new bridge is being designed with a super-elevated bank curb.
Designers say the safety feature gives drivers extra traction and prevents cars from slipping or skidding when driving around curves.
Officials say it also minimizes the likelihood of truck rollovers.
Bridge designers say the super elevation on the bridge is roughly a 6 percent incline rendering it almost unnoticeable to drivers.
