Stew Leonard's Yonkers and Stop & Shop in White Plains held turkey drives for those in need ahead of Thanksgiving on Thursday.
Stew Leonard's donated 3,000 turkeys across all eight of its stores to local nonprofits, churches and schools apart of its 46th annual Turkey Brigade.
One its recipients was Yonkers School District, with more than 10 schools receiving their share of turkeys.
In White Plains, students from the Leffell School and Maria Regina Catholic High School lined up to unload 1,250 turkeys, which Feeding Westchester will then donate to organizations in need.
"SNAP benefits and the issues that have happened with that are absolutely horrific. There is no excuse for it, people are going hungry and food should not be a luxury. Food should be a basic human right," said Daniel Wolk with Stop & Shop.
According to Feeding Westchester, 1 in 3 families in Westchester County are at risk of hunger.
