Organizers of a conservative conference in Atlanta rescinded their invitation to Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump after his comments about a female Fox News anchor.

Trump, who faced hard questioning from Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly during the Republican primary debate on Thursday, said in a later interview, "You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever."

Trump had been scheduled to deliver the keynote speech Saturday night at an event organized by RedState, an influential conservative group.

During the debate, Kelly questioned Trump about past statements in which he called women "fat pigs, dogs, slobs and disgusting animals."

After the debate, Trump called Kelly's questions "ridiculous and off base," and told reporters that he didn't have much respect for Kelly.

"She's a lightweight," Trump said.

Kelly, however, is very popular among conservatives.

"I think he took it a little too far," said Tony Sayegh, a Republican political analyst for News 12. "I don't think it resonated well in that audience and in households across America."

In the wake of the spat, Trump has announced what he called the firing of his top political adviser, Roger Stone. Trump accused Stone of using the campaign for his own publicity.

Stone, however, told CNN that he quit the campaign.
