The trial of a second defendant in connection with a fatal Spring Valley fire in 2021 is underway.
Former building Inspector Raymond Canario is charged with making false statements in state reports concerning inspections done at the Evergreen Court Home for Adults.
Spring Valley Firefighter Jared Lloyd and a resident died in the fire.
Canario faces three felony counts and three misdemeanor counts.
Judge Kevin Russo is hearing the trial in Rockland County Court without a jury.
He dismissed the case against former Spring Valley building inspector and Public Works Director Wayne Ballard earlier this month.
Plea bargains were reached with two other defendants.
Two rabbis, a father and a son, are charged with starting the fire by using a propane blowtorch to get the kitchen and ovens ready for the Jewish holiday of Passover.
They are due back in court in April.
