A local travel agency says now is a popular time to start booking trips, but they're seeing a drop in business up to 35% due to the coronavirus outbreak.

There are cases of coronavirus on every continent with the exception of Antarctica.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has listed five countries under alerts and warnings. The CDC recommends travelers avoid non-essential trips to China, Iran, Italy, South Korea and Japan.

Those flying or cruising to countries not listed under the warnings of the CDC should still follow routine precautions, like washing hands often, avoiding contact with sick people and avoiding touching the eyes nose and mouth with unwashed hands.

The CDC says following those steps are more important than wearing facemasks, which they do not recommend if you're not infected.

"It is currently safe to travel. Anytime you travel, you are coming in contact with a higher volume of people and that carries its own risk of spreading any illness -- particularly respiratory illness," said Dr. James Lindsey.

While traveling is not completely off limits, the CDC is actively updating information on its website for jetsetters before boarding.
