A tractor-trailer collision on I-287 in White Plains snarled traffic in both directions for over five hours today, prompting a grueling commute for drivers stuck in the morning congestion.

State police reported the crash occurring at 6 a.m., with lanes reopening around 11:20 a.m.

According to investigators, a 63-year-old Florida-based tractor-trailer driver traveling westbound collided with another tractor-trailer between exits 6 and 7. The impact caused the second truck to overturn across the center median, striking a 2004 Volkswagen sedan operated by a 52-year-old New Jersey man.

The second truck, transporting solar panels, spilled its cargo onto the roadway.

Morning traffic came to a standstill, stretching over 5 miles in both directions. Drivers attempted detours on local roads, congesting routes in and around White Plains. Spectators gathered on the Grant Avenue overpass to witness the congested scene.

State police confirmed the Volkswagen driver sustained minor injuries and received treatment at Westchester Medical Center, while the truck drivers emerged unharmed.

Detectives are investigating the accident's cause, but traffic flow has since returned to normal.
