Long Island was hit Monday by heavy rain, strong winds and some coastal flooding.
News 12's Kevin Vesey was on the South Shore where some residents say the storm brought some of the worst flooding they have ever seen.
News 12's Krista McNally was in Mastic Beach where water came right to the steps of some homes.
News 12's Cecilia Dowd was in Hicksville where some residents lost power due to the storm.
From the North Shore to the South Shore, Long Islanders dealt with downed trees, fallen power lines and wet roads. PSEG Long Island said it brought in extra crews in anticipation of Monday’s storm, which led to a total of more than 20,000 outages, with most restored by early Monday evening.
News 12 captured images of tree cleanups in Bay Shore, Huntington and Riverhead. In Bay Shore, a tree crashed into the rear window of a pole and also brought down wires. In Old Westbury, wires and poles were impacted as a result of whipping winds.
PSEG Long Island External Affairs Vice President Chris Hahn said the storm peaked between 3 a.m. and 7 a.m. He said the winds were “very strong” and they were seeing gusts of 50 to 70 mph in some spots. The vast majority of customers without power were expected to be restored by the end of day Monday.
News 12's Kevin Vesey was in Lindenhurst where some streets were left underwater. A little further east, coastal erosion was also a concern.
