A three-alarm fire at a Mount Vernon apartment complex claimed the life of a 64-year-old man.
Residents at the complex on Oakley Place were evacuated as firefighters battled the flames from a second-floor apartment around 9:45 p.m. Friday. The fire chief says Frank Wells, who lived in the apartment where the fire started, was pronounced dead at the scene. Fire officials say there were a lot of combustibles in Wells? apartment and believe a space heater was possibly to blame for the fire.
The fire damage was contained to Wells? apartment, however, surrounding apartments had some water damage. Most residents were able to return to their homes while the fire department conducted its investigation.
