Residents are struggling to apply for unemployment benefits as more and more people are out of work.

Peekskill special education teacher Lisa Schur has been trying to finalize her claim by speaking to a state Labor Department representative for four weeks.

Hundreds of Hudson Valley residents have reached out to News 12 saying they have run into the same issue.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo says he understands the stress New Yorkers are facing in trying to file for unemployment benefits. He says he is throwing money and resources at the problem to fix it.

The state announced Monday it is teaming up with Google to help fix glitches in the unemployment filing system.

According to the Labor Department, more than 450,000 New Yorkers filed for unemployment in the last two weeks. Most of those people were laid off because of the coronavirus pandemic.
