(09/10/06) VALHALLA - Westchester residents Sunday dedicated "The Rising," a permanent memorial to the Westchester County victims of 9/11.
The names of the 109 9/11 victims who lived in Westchester were read aloud during the ceremony by two siblings who lost their father that day. County Executive Andrew Spano (D-Westchester) oversaw the construction of the 80-foot tower, which consists of 109 steel beams to represent each family who lost a loved one. The tower sits at the foot of the Kensico Dam in Valhalla and was designed by Frederic Schwartz of New York City. "The Rising" memorial takes its name from the Bruce Springsteen song of the same title written after the 9/11 attacks.
