If you are still having a hard time thinking of a gift for mom this Mother’s Day, we have some tips on how to still snag a good deal.

Caleb Silver from Investopedia says people are expected to spend a record $31.7 billion this year on Mother’s Day.

The cost breaks down to about $274 per family. So what can you plan on paying more for?

“Starting with stationary and greeting cards, up 10.4% year over year, indoor plants and flowers 4.5% and then cosmetics and perfumes up 4.2% - so nearly every category more expensive than last,” says Silver.

Electronics, books and personal service gifts are also on the rise, as well as the cost of flowers.

Connie Dennis, the owner of Columbia Florist in the Bronx, has some tips on how to snag a deal on flowers.

"You know a few roses I think and mix in with other pretty spring flowers which are in season now. You know the lilacs are coming out, the lillys, gerber daises, even peonies which are a little pricey, but one or two really make the bouquet,” says Dennis.

Other ways to save is to take the flowers without a vase. To stay on budget, call the florist instead of ordering online.
