There is a new way to treat enlarged prostates without drugs and without some of the side effects to a man's libido.

The new FDA-approved minimally invasive technique is called UroLift.

Doctors say patients choose this device over pills because they don't want symptoms like sexual dysfunction.

Dr. Warren Bromberg, of CareMount Medical in Mount Kisco, is one of the few doctors in the country to administer the technique.

“As the prostate grows, it obstructs the urinary tract. Think of it as a doughnut. As the doughnut hole gets smaller, the UroLift places several sutures to widen that hole,” he says.

Bromberg says almost half of men will have an enlarged prostate by age 50, and nearly 80 percent of men will have one by age 70.
