Monday marked the World Day of Bullying Prevention, and students of a Tarrytown school were taught anti-bullying lessons intended to last a lifetime.
The National STOMP Out Bullying program and its annual Blue Shirt Day aim to educate parents and students about the seriousness of bullying and cyberbullying across the country. October is also considered National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month.
Students and staff at Washington Irving Elementary School in Tarrytown joined the fight against bullying by donning blue shirts in a show of support for the day.
The school's anti-bullying message was also delivered by way of student-created posters that line the walls of the building.
Interim Principal Susan Bretti says the message is so important that she intends to center future classroom discussions around the subject long after the day of observance ended.
