A Tarrytown police officer is on the wrong side of the law and could be out of a job for alleged possession of child pornography.
Authorities arrested 37-year-old Anthony Rypka Jr. Wednesday after executing a search warrant at his North Washington Street home where they found the images on his computer. Officials say Rypka?s internet service provider, America Online, notified New York State Police of the pictures in his account. The police then contacted the Westchester County District Attorney?s office.
The former Tarrytown volunteer firefighter is suspended from the police department. He is charged with promoting the sexual performance of a child and possession of pictures depicting the sexual performance of a child. If convicted, Rypka could spend up to seven years in prison.
Community members say they are sickened by the incident, but add Rypka?s alleged behavior is not representative of other officers.
