Somers High School and Tappan Zee High School have shut down after positive COVID-19 cases were found in their buildings.
Somers school officials say they received word Thursday that a person who tested positive had been in the building this week, so students and faculty were sent home early.
Tappan Zee officials say they were notified Wednesday that someone who was at the school Monday and Tuesday of this week tested positive for the virus. They made the decision to close the high school Thursday and today.
District officials in both cases are following the same protocols, working with their county health departments for contact tracing. As well, both shut down the buildings for deep cleaning and sanitizing.
All schools are closed Monday for Yom Kippur.
