Yonkers School Superintendent Michael Yazurlo blames Gov. Andrew Cuomo for 100 teachers and 150 other support staff being put on the chopping block.

He says the governor is refusing to give the schools $28 million it received last year when the district consolidated services with the city.

Yazurlo says Yonkers has had years of budget cuts, and he needs the $28 million just to keep the status quo.

In a statement, a state budget spokesperson says it's not the governor who needs to make a change.

"Last year, the state offered help when the school district made a multimillion-dollar accounting error, but it is plainly irresponsible for them to continue asking for bailouts instead of fixing a problem of their own making," said the spokesperson.

In the past, Yonkers has received last-minute help to avoid cuts and layoffs. Yazurolo says he isn't so sure what will happen now. He has reached out to the federal government for aid that is past due to avoid cuts.
