Summer camps will be in session as early as this Monday, even if they do look a bit different this year due to COVID-19.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo gave summer camps the green light to open up starting June 29.

However, many camps plan to open in mid-July to give them extra time to get ready for mandatory changes, which are based on state regulations and best practices from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Camp Association.

Summer Trails Day Camp in Somers plans to reopen July 13.

A few changes include temperature checks, increased sanitizing stations, additional hand washing and sanitizing for campers, mandatory masks for staff members, as well as smaller camp group sizes and activities taking place outside only.

The American Camp Association says when looking for a camp this summer, residents should make sure it is licensed and following the state regulations and best practices from the CDC and the association.
