Robert Hufcut, 55, is accused of repeatedly sexually abusing a child under the age of 11.

State police arrested the Town of Mamakating Highway superintendent and Summitville fire chief Tuesday, after a months-long investigation into allegations stemming back from 2000 to 2002.
Hufcut was indicted on four counts of “course of sexual conduct against a child.”
A description of New York law online describes that charge as “repeated sexual abuse or child molestation during a continuous period of time.”
People in Mamakating that News 12 spoke to say they are sickened by the allegations against someone in a public position of power.
“That’s pretty serious and disgusting,” said Erin Doherty. “No one should be in that kind of power with that going on. That’s just disgusting.”
Hufcut remains on the Town of Mamakating payroll as of Wednesday. Town Supervisor Mike Robbins says they’re waiting to hear back from their attorney to decide the future of his job.
Hufcut is in Orange County jail on $150,000 bond or $50,000 cash bail.
News 12 reached out to his Legal Aid attorney and the Summitville Fire Department for comment, but has not heard back
