Children with autism are getting a chance to make a difference of their own in Westchester and keep the spirit of Arbor Day alive.
Students at the REACH Academy in Harrison, along with Bartlett Tree Experts, planted a wide variety saplings on Monday.
Organizers say the activity allows the students to set goals and encourage teamwork. "People have to help each other. Some people don't know how to plant trees, so you need to help out by keeping them safe, and to help them learn," says program member Charles Vanduyhoven.
The REACH program helps teach children with Autism appropriate behaviors and develop skills needed to help them better interact in society.
