NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ALERTS: Winter storm warning in effect across the region.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
A large winter storm is moving toward the Northeast later today. Expect snow to begin after 3 p.m. and become heavy at times late tonight.
Snowfall rates may be intense, reducing visibility this evening. Use caution and avoid traveling overnight.
Snow may briefly mix with sleet as warmer air moves in, creating slick roads and walkways.
The system moves out Saturday morning, followed by drier conditions for the remainder of the day. Use that time for cleanup and shoveling after this latest winter blast.
Another system is expected Sunday into Monday, bringing mainly rain showers and gusty winds. Those winds may linger from Monday afternoon into New Year’s Eve.
