A student was stabbed in the halls of Spring Valley High School Tuesday morning.
Police say an extended argument between two students turned into a fight inside the school on Route 59 at around 9 a.m. They say the victim, a 17-year-old boy, was stabbed several times in the chest and shoulder. Still, he chased the suspect outside the school, but eventually collapsed.
The suspect, 16-year-old Christopher Bermeo, was found at his home and taken into police custody. He has been charged with attempted murder.
The victim was brought to Nyack Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. He is in stable condition.
A fist fight also broke out between the friends of the suspect and victim. No one was injured and those students were sent home.
Police combed the area surrounding the school in search of the weapon used. They believe it was a knife that looks like a pen, which would be why it was able to be brought inside.
The school was put on lockdown for two hours while police investigated. Security was increased for the rest of the day in case of retaliation.
