Restaurants across Westchester have been hit hard by the pandemic, but are ready to open with the necessary changes during Phase 2.
Stephen Berg, co-owner of The Iron Tomato on Mamaroneck Avenue in White Plains, says it's been a rough few months. Berg says business is down about 80% since the start of the pandemic, which really hurt because the restaurant was on track to do big numbers for its 10-year anniversary.
Berg says The Iron Tomato relies a lot on corporate business so when everything shut down it hurt. He says they went from a staff of 38 to 12, and now have 18 workers. He is hoping that with things reopening business will pick up again.
For Lily's in White Plains, business has also been slow despite doing takeout orders.
Brian McMahon, the owner of Lily's, says he went from a staff of 65 down to 11. He says it's been tough, but is trying to stay positive.
Right now, McMahon is focusing on the Phase 2 reopening and has an outdoor seating area all set with tables set six feet apart.
