Nanuet man claims state-run testing site in Rockland was like a 'ghost town'

A Nanuet man says he had to wait four days to be tested for COVID-19 at the state-run Anthony Wayne site in Rockland County, and when he got there, it seemed empty.

A Nanuet man says he had to wait four days to be tested for COVID-19 at the state-run Anthony Wayne site in Rockland County, and when he got there, it seemed empty.

Pete Weigang, of Nanuet, says he was surprised at the seemingly empty test site in Harriman State Park. He took video of the area.

“From what I understand they have tests, so it was just kind of odd that this whole facility was like a ghost town," he says.

News 12 drove by on Tuesday and also saw empty lanes and tents.

A representative for the testing site says six of its 12 lanes are being used to avoid “overwhelming the system,” and that they are testing 400 people a day.

Appointments are quick - less than 15 minutes - but Weigang says he’s skeptical and that bottom line - patients should be screened right away if possible.

“It would’ve been helpful to get in sooner. I still don’t have the results," he says.
