The new recreation center in Harrison currently doesn't have a name.

Community members say they don't want it to be named anything else other than the "Frank P. Sollazzo Sr. Recreation Center."

For 60 years, the recreation center in Harrison has been named after Sollazzo Sr., a man described as the heart and soul of the place.

"He was in there day and night, just running every program that there was. He started baseball leagues, he started football leagues, he started basketball leagues," said Dave Sollazzo, one of Frank's sons.

"He's the one that got women's basketball going in the 50s and early 60s before it was even a thing. He's done a lot," said Harrison Mayor Tom Scappaticci.

Dozens of Frank's family and friends attended Thursday's meeting in Harrison to show their support.

A new recreation center is being built, and Frank's name could be removed. The town board is debating it and community members don't understand why.

"It's an honor to my dad, and his name should always remain there," said Dave.

No decision was made Thursday night.
