STORM TEAM UPDATE: An incoming weather system could create a wintry mix followed by icy conditions. This could pose hazards on the roadways on Thursday morning. We are still gathering information on this system, stay with News 12 and we'll post new updates as they become available.
Today is the day to start making travel adjustments for tomorrow. I expect many school closings across the lower Hudson Valley for tomorrow. School delays will not accomplish much unfortunately since travel will continue to be snow covered and icy through the entire morning.
Heading out today? It is just cold and dry. So, as long as you dress warmly, you will be fine today with a mix of clouds and some sunshine. High temperatures will only be around 33 degrees with less wind than Tuesday.
Snow will move in between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. tomorrow. Travel will become dangerous in a hurry as that snow will stick to untreated surfaces right away. On average, around one to three inches of snow will fall before a change to any wintry mix and freezing rain. Ice accretion will be under one-tenth of one inch, but that is plenty to allow for extra icy travel on top of snow.
Between 10 a.m. and noon Thursday, the storm will taper off. While this can end as some plain rain showers across southern Westchester County, plain rain looks more limited at this time. By afternoon, temperatures will rise above freezing in many areas, especially south of I-84. That said, travel can still be wet and slippery through the afternoon, but the afternoon is definitely the better part of the day.
We get a dry day on Friday to plan ahead for our next storm which will arrive Saturday afternoon and evening and last through early Sunday. This can bring another chance of snow and some wintry mix.
If you are heading out on Sunday for festivities surrounding "the big game," travel will be better with drier weather and some breaks of sun along with highs near 40 degrees.
NEXT WEEK: The News 12 Storm Watch Team of meteorologists continues to not only track Thursday's and this weekend's storms, but also the chance for more snow and possibly some mixing in the Tuesday / Wednesday timeframe next week.
Have a nice Wednesday and please heed all warning about tomorrow's weather!
