SLOW DOWN! Those are two of the most important words this morning as rain changed to heavy, wet snow last night. The intensity is lighter this morning, but we will still see periodic snow, mixed with rain at times, through much of the day. Only light additional snow accumulations are expected. The snow totals were in the elevated locations, but the coverage of snow in the air and some coatings extended all the way down to the Long Island Sound shore in southern Westchester County. In Westchester and Rockland counties, expect mainly wet roads with more rain mixing in now. North of I-287 will be snow covered in spots and more slippery. Highest amounts of lower Hudson Valley snow are in Orange County and Ulster counties where amounts more than 6 inches have fallen, mostly in areas with elevation above 600 feet.
SNOW TOTALS
Highest so far south of I-84: Monroe: 8.2 inches measured where elevation is 860
South of I-287: Some snow was on the sides of streets, but no more than coatings really and just wet there now
North of 287 in Westchester and Rockland: Up to around 3 inches before compaction
Putnam/Dutchess: Anywhere from 1 to 4 inches mostly
Orange: 4 to 8 inches or so, less than that in southern Orange
Ulster: Mostly 3-6 inches+
This was still an elevation dependent storm in terms of why we are seeing such a wide range of totals over small areas with more minimal, but wet and slick conditions south and much more snow coverage north and west.
