A fast-moving storm swept across Westchester Thursday night, downing power lines and sparking fires in New Rochelle.
Residents on Stratton Road say the storm knocked down live utility lines, which caused nearby trees to catch fire. One homeowner says a 90-foot tree fell in his backyard and clipped his house. Meanwhile, others headed for shelter in their basements due to winds they described as hurricane force.
Con Edison says about 200 customers were without power in New Rochelle, Port Chester, Harrison and Rye.
