A Highland Falls family waiting to welcome a third child is rushing to find a new home following Sunday's storm.
Charlene Yehl, her husband, 6-year-old Luka and 3-year-old Sevi are currently residing in a hotel in Fort Montgomery.
Yehl says people have been sending her money, baby supplies and toys since floods forced the family from their rented home on Kleitz Avenue.
Yehl often helps others as a local volunteer and president of the local chamber of commerce. She says she is overwhelmed by the help she is now receiving.
What she really needs, though, is a new home.
"There was already a housing crisis before this flood happened," Yehl says.
The search for a rental home, however, has not been going all that well. They need a home that can accommodate children and another child on the way.
"We already have very few rentals available in the Town of Highlands as it is, so forcing people to look outside of home it's really hard. It's emotional," Yehl says.
The family is not giving up on staying in Highland Falls because they love their friends -- the same people who rushed to their aid.
One example is Luka's pre-K teacher who helped take care of the kids and loaded them up with toys.
"She brought all these things for us. She brought all these things for me. She's more than a teacher. She's a special person," she says.
Yehl says there are some leads on new rental homes, but nothing has come through yet.
