A state senator is facing federal charges for allegedly lying to the FBI.

State Sen. Thomas Libous (R-Binghamton) allegedly lied to the FBI when he claimed he did not use his political influence to get his son, Matthew, a job at a Westchester law firm. Matthew Libous, 36, is also facing charges for filing false tax returns. The charges stem from testimony of Anthony Mangone, the attorney Matthew Libous allegedly worked for.

Both Sen. Libous and his son have pleaded not guilty. Libous says he plans to run for re-election because he has lots of plans for his constituents.

Libous, who is undergoing chemotherapy for prostate cancer that spread to his lungs, is due back in court Sept. 3. His son will be back in court on Aug. 25.
