State lawmakers have passed a flood mitigation bill that could help Yonkers residents living in flood-prone, low-lying areas, according to Assemblywoman Shelley Mayer.
The bill calls for the formation of a new task force to address flooding statewide. During recent storms in Yonkers, some people report having been rescued from their homes by firefighters in row boats.
Supporters say the task force will lead to increased funding for frequently flooded communities, of which there are several in the Hudson Valley.
The bill was sent to Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Lawmakers say they're confident he will sign the new legislation into law.
