(AP) - Republicans and Democrats trying to holdsimultaneous legislative sessions in the New York Senate have goneinto recess after leaders from the dueling parties began talkingover each other.
Democratic Gov. David Paterson had called a special sessionTuesday to break a two-week legislative stalemate and get theSenate moving on issues such as bond financing, municipal taxes andmayoral control of New York City schools that he says must beresolved by the end of the month.
Several senators exchanged sharp words in the latestconfrontation since Republicans tried to regain a majority with thehelp of two dissident Democrats, one of whom later flipped supportback to his own party. That left both sides deadlocked with 31votes each.
