An extra special honor was given out to a Spring Valley man during a ceremony Thursday morning at a school in Rockland County.

Jean Donald Mathieu was recognized at Lime Kiln Elementary's DARE program graduation for saving an 8-month-old baby from a fire at a Spring Valley apartment building in February.

His son Jayden even helped give father his certificate.

"When you see somebody, like in trouble, if you can do something, don't be a bystander. Just try to do something to help them," Mathieu said.

About 230 students from Lime Kiln, including mathieu's son, graduated from the program Thursday morning.

Fifth graders at East Ramapo's other schools were also celebrated in similar ceremonies.
