County Executive Andy Spano announced he is running for a fourth term Thursday, officially throwing his hat into a race that includes a former rival and his own son.
Spano announced his re-election bid at a fundraiser in Rye that was also a birthday party for the 73-year-old. Spano says in the next four years he hopes to keep taxes low, make sure county goverment works for its residents and becomes a model for the rest of the country.
The county executive addressed recent attacks against his administration that have become the fuel for his son David?s campaign against him. David Spano says he is running for county executive to abolish county government. The movement to get rid of county government was also spearheaded by newspaper publisher and strip club owner Sam Zherka.
"By running for county executive, I plan to be the last county executive,? David Spano recently declared.
"With my son, it's just a family problem,? Andy Spano told News 12 Westchester. ?With Zherka and the people around him?people should know that getting rid of county government?s an absurdity.?
Republican Rob Astorino, who previously ran against County Executive Spano, is also running. Astorino says he?ll take on Spano on high taxes and spending.
