Several people were hospitalized after an apartment fire in Montrose on Monday evening.
Fire officials say flames broke out at the Springvale apartment complex, and firefighters had to work fast to keep the entire complex from burning down.
They say most of the people living at the complex were home when the fire started, although no one was home in the apartment where the flames ignited.
Firefighters had to rescue at least one person, and several people were taken to the hospital. Montrose Fire Chief Scott Gilbert says the injuries were minor and included smoke inhalation.
People living in the apartments say it was a frightening scene. "I was in my apartment on my computer and I smelled smoke. I went outside and I heard the alarm and then when I looked at the building, I saw smoke coming out of the top of the windows," says resident Rick Ross.
People living in the section where the fire happened were not allowed back in the building. The Red Cross is assisting those who were displaced by the fire.
Investigators say they are still looking into the cause, but it appears to be accidental.
