Security enhancements are in place at several Hudson Valley synagogues for the High Holy Days.
There is a marked increase in police presence at synagogues like Kol Ami in White Plains as Jews congregate to pray on Rosh  Hashanah and celebrate the new year.
In Orange County, the Jewish Federation of Greater Orange County awarded $25,000 in security upgrade grants to five synagogues. A spokesperson from the federation says the grants are vital to ensuring safety of communities at a time when there's a steady rise of anti-Semitic threats.
White Plains Department of Public Safety Commissioner David Chong says they have no threats or intelligence of any planned acts, but security is crucial nonetheless.
"Unfortunately there's been a trend that people with anger issues or people anti-anything can strike on holidays to get attention." says Chong.
Security will be stepped up not only for the Jewish holidays but also ahead of tomorrow's remembrance of Sept. 11, when crowds will gather to commemorate the victims of the terror attack.
