A Rockland County grade school's marquee sign was vandalized with a racial slur over the weekend.
A custodian discovered the sign outside Pomona Middle School had been tampered with at around 6 p.m. Saturday.
The sign originally had a message about Thanksgiving, but while sporting events were occurring, someone rearranged the letters to spell out a racial slur using the "N" word and an expletive.
The message was removed and quickly fixed. Police were notified.
School officials say whoever is responsible managed to jimmy a defective lock on the marquee sign and make the changes. The sign is currently blank.
Ramapo police say the incident is being investigated as a criminal mischief case. No suspects have been identified.
