Hundreds of public and private school students in the East Ramapo Central School District had significant school bus problems on multiple days during this first week of school.
Parents say hundreds of students either weren’t picked up or dropped off by buses Thursday.
Principal Jeanette Rosa-Sanchez, of Cornerstone Christian School in New Hempstead, says 82 of her students weren't picked up by East Ramapo buses Thursday or Friday, many arriving late – some not even making it to school at all.
“I don't know what's going on in East Ramapo but it's affecting our parents, it's affecting our school,” she says.
The superintendent of East Ramapo Schools told News 12 in a statement that the district safely transports 35,000 students per day and that, like in any district, there will be transportation issues during the first week of school.
No other transportation issues were reported elsewhere in Rockland County.
Parents say they are considering extreme measures just to avoid sending their children to schools in a district already beleaguered by lawsuits, low test scores and overall mismanagement.
“We're trying to move because of the school district and everything,” says parent Shanna Rucker.
