A student-run charity in Scarsdale held a tag sale to help low-income kids in the city of Mount Vernon.
Ninth-graders Ishwar and Maya were joined by a small army of siblings and friends to spend part of their spring break helping organize a tag sale at St. James the Less church in Scarsdale. It will help less-fortunate students at the Edward William School in Mount Vernon.
The students are volunteers for the local charity called 33 Birds. It's administered by Scarsdale fifth-grade teacher David Besancon and is named after his favorite basketball player, NBA Hall of Famer Larry Bird.
The group's initial goal was to help the needy, but it expanded to educating children about poverty and hunger.
The students are hoping to raise enough money at the tag sale to send four Mount Vernon students to summer camp.
