Experts came to Scarsdale Middle School Wednesday in an effort to tackle the growing problem of head lice at the school.
Principal Michael McDermott called in a private company to help school nurses inspect the scalps of each student and encourage the treatment of those who have the blood-sucking insects living on their heads. McDermott says about 15 students were found to have head lice. He believes the recent outbreak stems from a slumber party attended by several students. School officials asked parents to also be vigilant in detecting and fighting head lice.
The private company will return to the school in January to perform further head checks on students to make sure the lice outbreak is under control.
