There's a new scam around Westchester County that targets religious groups.
The county's Department of Consumer Protection warns residents to look out for fraudulent emails or texts asking parishioners to donate to local houses of worship.
The department says the scammers are asking for cash or gift cards. They are warning residents not to respond. Instead, they advise people to call the houses of worship directly to verify the information.
The department also says don't click any links. Those who want to donate can always give to houses of worship in person.
