The Town of Brookhaven is cracking down on a quality-of-life issue.
Virginia Curcio is going public with her story, a traumatic break-in from 2023, to raise awareness about problem rentals in the Mastic Beach area.
“I suffered a home invasion from I guess you can say an undesirable element who was living in one of the rental properties," said Virginia Curcio.
Curcio says many of the issues that happen in the neighborhood are because of homes owned by SARV Properties. She and other civic leaders say the property owners were negligent.
The Brookhaven Town supervisor announced that 100 rental properties owned by SARV were investigated, resulting in a settlement.
SARV will pay an over $100,000 fine and transfer ownership of six properties over to the town.
As part of the settlement, SARV also agreed to open an office at 54 President Road to be able to directly address community concerns.
News 12 reached out to SARV’s attorney for comment but has not heard back.
