Rye Playland is now under new management.
County officials signed off on an agreement Tuesday to lease the amusement park to Standard Amusements. Standard Amusements will run the park, but the county will continue to own it.
The plan includes a $32 million investment by the county and another $30 million from Standard Amusements.
Michael Kaplowitz, chairman of the Westchester County Board of Legislators, insists it's a win-win for the county and park visitors because there will be new rides and attractions, upgraded food choices, as well as renovations of the grounds and buildings. He insists that the deal will save county taxpayers millions of dollars every year, while they still get to enjoy a state-of-the art attraction.
Rye Playland is scheduled to open its gates on Saturday for its 88th season.
