Two people died in a fiery wrong-way crash in Orange County early Wednesday.
State police say the incident occurred just before 2 a.m. in Chester on Route 17 westbound.
Troopers reported an overturned vehicle on the shoulder, surrounded by firefighters and EMS, and a badly damaged Nissan Altima in the westbound lanes, with at least one vehicle catching fire.
A preliminary investigation points to a wrong-way driver as the cause.
Two individuals were pronounced dead at the scene, and another person with serious injuries was taken to Garnet Health Medical Center in Middletown.
The westbound lanes, initially closed, reopened around 8:40 a.m.
Police are asking any witnesses to call 845-344-5300.
