A rookie Middletown police officer was shot twice while responding to a domestic dispute Tuesday.
Fellow officers stood back as Police Officer Christopher Dolan approached the front of 317 Wawaynda Ave., authorities said. When Dolan banged on the door, the 34-year-old suspect fired at least two shots with a 9-mm handgun, striking the 22-year-old officer in the arm and pelvic region, police said.
After some negotiation with police, authorities said the suspect surrendered while holding his son. He has been charged with attempted murder.
Neighbors said the suspect, along with his wife and child, moved in recently.
Dolan, who wore a bullet-resistant vest, has been on the job just a few weeks. He is listed in stable condition.
